Callian's Dream.. yours truly on left with Fender Strat

Since the 80's

In the early 80's I discovered sobriety and the quality of the music improved immediately and I set out anew (as Bob Dylan would say) on the elusive dream.. Steve Bowen and I had an attempted group called Chocolate Mouse and later a group called Incognito which was made up of all friends of Bill W. During this time I started playing bass backup for an Irish folksinger friend, Don Cobert. We would play the Irish clubs and festivals (sometimes with Rick Kanton of Shadow Of A Dream legacy).. Don and I still play gigs together (sometimes with Patrick O'Flaherty) on occasion like St. Patrick's Day, when the more people drink the better we sound..

On the rock side, I played with a number of part time groups, doing mostly classic rock with dashes of blues, country and originals.. Groups include The Zone, The Nodes, Looze Cannons, The Legendary Band, Daddy Rose, The Titaniacs, Blues Museum, The Mammals, Conspiracy amongst other.. The Looze Cannons were a particularly interesting group.. made up of all IRS agents except for myself.. I volunteered to join the IRS but was told there was a hiring freeze so so much for my IRS career.. The Looze Cannons did mostly department parties at hotels and officer clubs.. classic rock and some country.. we got a mention in The Wall Street Journal..

I was trying to put together a group to do some of my original and cover music... The Earthlings in the mid 90's did some of my songs, some co written, at a few club dates.. The Earthlings included Pete Hartzler, Lynn Callo and Gus Panknen amongst other pilgrims. The Earthlings split and Lynnx was born, named after the lead singer, Lynn Callo...

I think Lynnx went thru more drummers than Spinal Tap.. Meagan Lane joined Lynnx in 1996, on bass and I switched to mostly guitar.. Lynnx had some gigs but the recording companies never came rushing to the door. The other guitar player for Lynnx, Dave Kelly, moved to California and the last drummer never came back, auditions were unfruitful and from the ashes of Lynnx, Callian's Dream was born in 1998.. named after Meagan's excellent cat that passed away during the forming of the group and later we found after a medieval village in France.

In Callian's Dream we did original and cover music.. Meagan Lane on bass, flute and vocals, Dew Maisel on percussion and vocals, Davy (that's me - Al Franken, " I'm good enough, I'm smart enough and, dog gone it! people like me!") on guitar and vocals and Lynette Brawer on keys and vocals.. Lynette was vastly talented, a beautiful person inside and out.. she was one of the best friends I ever had.... We played in the Washington, DC and Baltimore area, mention of places at the Callian's Dream Main Website.. In August, 2001, Lynette and her son Joey (he was 13) died of injuries they had sustained in a fire a few days earlier.. Words could never describe the feelings, the sense of loss we felt..

Callian's Dream played at Lynette's and Joey memorial service and went on a hiatus of sorts after that for several months.. We played individually with other groups occasionally but not as Callian's Dream.. I wrote a song for Lynette, "Rock And Roll Buddha" which I've sung (and sing) at coffee houses and festivals and such.. it's gotten good response..

Callian's Dream seems to have evolved into two new groups "Clan Destyn".. (pronounced "Clandestine").. Luan Aleen, which is the group I play with.. we do folk, folk rock, rock, blues country and Celtic music.. Luan Aleen is Gaelic for "Beautiful Moon" and was named in honor of Lynette..

I have high hopes for Luan Aleen, we definitely have talented musicians with Dorothy Sherman on vocals and flute, Chris Semich on violin.. Tim Wright on keys and George Piasecki on drums.. we'll be doing originals we write and covers we like, including some of Lynette's music.. I have a number of my original songs on soundclick.com.. check out Davy Shannon & Callian's Dream"

Thanks for visiting.. if you'd like to drop a line or sign the guestbook please go ahead and do so..

"Tashi Delek" as the 12 year old Tibetan refugee girl living in India that I sponsor would say (her picture is on the band website).. it means 'good luck and cheers'...
