Marie Pacha

I was born in August of 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa.  About a month later I was adopted with my twin brother by a wonderful family from a little town (Albia, Iowa), and lived there throughout high school.

Life progressed in a pretty typical fashion.  Elementary school, high school, and instead of going on to college like I should have, I got married.  I was too young and too stubborn to listen to my parents, and it didn’t last.  I have a 33 year old daughter from those days.

I married again later, more mature in some ways, but not in others and I divorced again.  But I have two wonderful sons still home with me, though it’s nearing time for them to leave the nest.  My three children help keep me grounded.  They are my strength when I feel overwhelmed, and they keep me young.

It was during this last divorce four and a half years ago that the writer in me emerged.  I had always written, but words suddenly seemed to pour out of me, usually in rhyme.  I wrote prolifically for the next two years with the flood of words slowly decreasing in the past few months as my life finally returned to a more normal routine.

I still write poems, and I have a lot more in me I am sure, but the emotional roller coaster I was living on has leveled off, and with that the need I had to release my feelings.

In addition, I have expanded to writing in prose and I write essays for a fee, as well as novel length manuscripts.   I finally went back to college a couple of years ago, and have focused on any courses that could expand my writing ability.

After all, how many people get a chance to start over as they hit their middle years?  At the age of 53 I am beginning a new life, and I am still not sure exactly where it will take me.  But I am look forward to the journey.
