The Sphinx

The Sphinx looks like a lion with the head and sometimes part of the torso of a human. In Egypt the Sphinx was concidered a type of spiritual guardian. Statues of them can be found guarding the doorways of ancient temple ruins or found in the treasure of the dead Kings.

The Greeks had a legend of a Sphinx as well. Once a demon Sphinx came to the Greek city of Thebes and challenged all people within the city to answer it's riddle. Many wisemen and warriors tried to answer the riddle but failed. The failure ended with their death by the Sphinx's claws. This went on for a very long time until finally a hero named Oedipus came and answered the riddle, thus he defeated the Sphinx and freed the city.
