Zombies

The Zombie

Many cultures have legends about a creature that is dead yet alive. Zombies are characterized by being living-dead creatures who are mindless shuffling half-rotted walking corpses. Early legends say they haunt graveyards and eat the brains(or some other body organ) of the living when given the chance. Stories stemming from the vodoo tradition say Zombies are animated bodies of the restless dead that an evil vodoo master can make serve them. One version of those legends is that corpse powder(gotten from grinding the bones of the dead) can be sprinkled on a dead person and with the proper rites, they become Zombies. Another version goes that vodoo zombies result when living people are given a certain mixture. They don't die but only seem to. Later they appear to arise from the grave when they come too.

No matter what version of the legend one accepts modern horror movies have popularized the zombie. They view the zombie as a rotting walking corpse that arises to serve an evil master for one purpose or another. Sometimes the zombies have minds, other times they are witless servants. The movies generally agree that zombies like to eat the brains of the living. This makes them into something the living would rather not run into.
